Rachel Tooth
Rachel Tooth is always looking for the abstract underlying the nature of nature — exploring the balance between realism and abstraction as a dynamic interplay, fighting between raw and polished, spontaneous and controlled. She describes every canvas as a conversation or creative argument that can shift direction unexpectedly. Her paintings are combinations of light and movement, colour and composition, with an underlying emotional investment. She allows paintings to develop their own identity through creativity and experimentation, with honesty and strength of feeling always present. Her influences span from impressionism to abstract expressionism, including Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Peter Lanyon, and Serge Poliakoff.
