Judy Clarkson

Judy Clarkson was born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and studied Fine Art BA at St Martin's School of Art. She is a figurative artist working in oil on canvas, with her work centring on the human form in various contexts — nude, clothed, or in portraiture. She describes feeling an intense relationship between the subject and herself while creating, and works primarily in oil paint, valuing its ability to capture human flesh through its earthy spectrum and plastic nature. Her recent pieces incorporate environmental elements and objects that reflect the subject's psychological state and broader human experiences. Her accolades include the Paula Rego Painter Prize (2025), The Daler-Rowney Prize (2025), and the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize (2018). She has been shortlisted for the New Light Art Prize and The John Ruskin Prize, and has exhibited in the Society of Women Artists and Discerning Eye exhibitions.
