Artist Profile

Suzie Silk is a conceptual photographer whose practice centres on identity, sexuality and the inner psyche. Her work approaches subjects through a distorted lens, creating familiar but vague and unsettling characters that challenge social norms — particularly representations of the female body. She uses her own body as subject matter and creates handmade filters, manipulating reality through photographic principles entirely in-camera. She draws inspiration from fairytales and folklore, exploring how narratives shape cultural archetypes and contemporary media representations. She holds a BA in Photography from Nottingham Trent University (2006) and won the Women in Art Tim May Memorial Prize in 2023. Her exhibitions span 2023–2025 across UK venues including London's Mall Galleries and Roundhouse. She has been featured in A Place for Us magazine (2024) and Artists Responding to magazine (2023).
