Artist Profile

Tanaka Mazivanhanga is a Zimbabwean-British multidisciplinary artist working in London, specialising in print, installation and object making. She graduated with an Architecture Degree from Kingston School of Art in 2014 and an MA in Printmaking from Camberwell College of Arts in 2019. Her practice explores the textures, marks, and fragments of urban and domestic spaces, preserving traces of memory and history that are often overlooked. Rooted in diasporic experiences, her work asks: How do surfaces and fragments hold memory? Is home a physical space, or does it exist beyond geography? Drawing inspiration from artists such as Do Ho Suh and Heidi Bucher, she examines how lived experience becomes embedded in space. She casts and rubs surfaces as a way of documenting and seeking a sense of belonging, often incorporating found textures; her layered prints bring together different geographies in a single surface. She has been awarded the East London Printmakers award and the Bainbridge Prize (2019), the Slaughterhaus Print Studio Award and the StART x Martin Miller's Gin Emerging Artist Art Prize (2022), and the ASC Gallery Award (2023).
