Getting in the Picture – Repose – After John White Alexander
Julie Cassels had an initial career as a Systems Analyst, working in both England and New Zealand, before studying Visual Arts at Salford University (graduating 2004) and completing an MA in Textiles/Fashion at Manchester Metropolitan University (2005). She is a multi-disciplinary artist based at Rogue Artists' Studios, Manchester, whose practice uses the photographic image as a fundamental medium to explore the relationship between a still image, a photographic sequence and a moving image, encompassing video installation, photographic collage and digitally reconstructed objects. Her work is initiated by historical research and highlights the aesthetics of textiles and clothing throughout art history. She was a runner-up in the Greater Manchester Art Prize (2019), received an Arts Council England DYCP grant (2021), and her work has been exhibited in the UK, Europe and New Zealand, and is held in private collections and museums.
