Ange Bell is an Irish artist born in Belfast in 1975, currently living and working in Brighton. She studied a BA Hons in Fine Art at the University of Ulster and an MA in Fine Art at the Norwich School of Art and Design. Now working primarily in oil, her practice centres on themes of origins and belonging, exploring concepts of nostalgia, recognition and permanence through painted portraits. She sources material from found photographs and social media, then transforms these images through oil painting, using mark-making techniques to distort, eliminate and manipulate the image and create visual depth. Her work appears in private collections internationally and has been selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Hibernian Academy, and Royal Ulster Academy. She has received the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Small Painting Prize and multiple Jacksons Painting Prize awards.
