Elly Hadjipateras is a London-based British figurative artist working mostly in oil. Self-taught, she has been painting for about 40 years. She started her career as a portraitist on commission before expanding into figurative realism, still life and landscape in the last 15 years. She fuses traditional portraiture with an abstract slant to create tension and intensity, combining ethereal beauty with more menacing motifs of nature, decaying flowers and abstract shapes. Her work is rooted in her emotional connection with her two adult daughters and her own memories. She works every day in a studio in Kensal Rise, London, and has exhibited extensively at the Mall Galleries with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and Royal Society of British Artists.
