Anansi and the Pot of Wisdom

Zoe Gyamfi is a Ghanaian-British visual artist whose work explores memory, folklore, and myth. Working primarily with acrylic on wood, her practice draws from various forms of memory, particularly folktales and oral traditions. Through mythology symbolism and vibrant imagery, Gyamfi seeks to explore and celebrate the beauty, richness and complexity of West African culture and the Black experience. Her work responds to the way Blackness has often been represented through narratives and sorrow, while making space for intrigue, culture and legacy. Drawing on West African mythology and textile traditions such as Kente and Adinkra, she is using inherited stories to imagine what gets carried forward.
