Chidimma URUNWA Ikegwuonu is a multidisciplinary and socially engaged artist currently based in Manchester, United Kingdom. Her work is rooted in storytelling, using painting to explore themes of identity, culture, feminism, femininity, the environment and gender inequality. Working mainly with Oil on canvas and bamboo woven surface, vibrant colours, rich textures and emotive compositions, Chidimma captures personal and collective experiences that shape who we are, telling stories of the past and present that words often cannot express. Her interest in women’s history comes from experinece and fascination with the strength and stories of women across generations. She explores the beauty of what has been preserved, passed down and often left unseen. Travel has changed the way Chidimma views identity and belonging. The places she has experienced continue to influence her work, reflecting what she has felt and carried with her. Her work has been exhibited around the world and featured in recognised publications.
